If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that River, my faithful doggie, has started showing some initiative. At night, when he’s had enough of staying up, he comes to my side, sighs loudly and stares at me until I get up and go to bed. Apparently, it’s not okay for him to go to bed on his own, he has to have me with him. Following his lead, I ushered my hubby to bed early the other day. Hubby thought the entire thing was too funny for words.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that we’ve been having a cold spell that was too brutal for words. When the temperature reached -26 C without the wind, being outside was out of the question and I’ve been keeping a close eye on my puppies. When they’re outside, they seem to forget the temperature and play on the snow with delight. Winter-dogs or not, I’m not comfortable leaving them out there for longer than 15 minutes or so. I worry about their little ears and wet noses. So I call them in and they do come…reluctantly and giving me sad looks of regret.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you just how cold it was where you live. It seems this freezing spell has hit most of North America and there isn’t a spot that wasn’t under some sort of weather warning.

Definitely time for another cup of beautiful coffee. And a huge thanks to Eclectic Alli for hosting our Coffee Share.

If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that this week we’ve been having ideas. Mine was to create a better cushion for our doggies in their beds. They have those usual doggie beds you get in the stores but the stuffing bunches up and they end up with parts that have nothing and parts that are all lumpy. So…I searched and looked and looked and finally found some memory foam meant for human beds. I bought some, cut it to fit and stuffed it inside.

This one shows the memory foam inside. Keep in mind, I doubled it because…well, I’m nuts.

This is the final product…so comfy!

And yes, our two doggies rested their fluffy tails on these cushions and loved them.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that my hubby also had an idea. His came from a friend who told him that the thing to do nowadays was to have a back up wallet. As in, a fake wallet for when someone tries to steal your wallet, you can just give them the fake one.

Demonstrating his cunning intellect, my hubby thought this was a great idea. Never mind that he has never had someone try to steal his wallet. This was an emergency and needed to be done ASAP and he now is the proud owner of two wallets.

If we were having coffee, I’d warn you not to look at this unless you are ready; the video broke my heart.

I’ll be honest and admit I cried, that it kept me up at night and that, even now, makes me worry about those beautiful animals, literally starving to death.

I know there’s little one person can do and my little contribution won’t do too much, but I found this grassroots habitat dedicated solely to Polar Bears; the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat and I had to give them some money.

Aren’t they simply gorgeous?

If we were having coffee I’d tell you it’s been another very busy week. It’s something that we should expect, since we work with the public and it’s before the holidays, but somehow, it always takes me by surprise.

If we were having coffee, I’d complain to you about my hubby. He is so hard to shop for! He has very wide feet and is not exactly gentle on his shoes, so he is in constant need of new footwear…that means slippers too. Well, none of the ones we’ve got for him are wide enough for his duck-feet or dignified enough for him. So, I got these…

He didn’t like them.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that Little Leonard is still with the vet. They’re concerned about his eye and waiting to see how it heals. Poor little guy.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I’m still sniffling and sneezing. That cold I had last week seems to like me because it refuses to leave.

Hey, did you just use my napkin? Hm…

If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee, I’d ask for a second. My head feels like a beehive and I can’t seem to focus. I think I might be sick…so it’s a good thing you’re on the other side of a computer screen. I don’t want you to catch it.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that this week has been exhausting. It felt like a month-long instead of 5 days and the fact that my hubby was away for the weekend didn’t help my mood at all.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I had the most bizarre experience yesterday. I was home, feeling sick with my two fur-balls (aka dogs) and I started to watch football.

I can blame my illness on the fact that I suddenly wanted to watch the sport, I certainly haven’t ever watched it before when I was healthy, but the fact of the matter is that I watched the entire game…all two hours of it. Two. Hours.

Obviously, I have some sort of mental disease.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that we have snow…and our two akitas couldn’t be happier. I have yet to see them express that amount of happiness at the sight of us or food or their beds. Snow holds an incredible amount of glee for our two fluff-balls. They simply can’t get enough of the stuff.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that lately, work has been actually fun. I work with the public and while they can be demanding, contradicting and maddening, they can also be cute, endearing and hilarious. I had a week where I spent most of my time at work laughing. Laughter, in my book, is one of the best things.

If we were having coffee, I’d share that my lovely, British hubby is obsessed with a restaurant and we’ve been going religiously to it every weekend since September. After two and a half months of the same food, I’m starting to look like the menu. If he suggests it next weekend, I might kick him in the buttocks.

How was your week? Is there anyone you’d like to kick?

Coffee share has found a new home.  Eclectic Alli is hosting it. Come see what everyone’s saying.

If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that it’s finally fall here. Fall in Canada has a crispy, cool feel to the air that’s unique to this time of year. It’s cold but it doesn’t have the harsh bite of winter’s winds so it’s lovely. The leaves are beautiful too. They explode into a million shades of yellow, gold and bold reds that makes walking a spiritual experience.

So, to the delight of my two fluff-balls of dogs, we had two walks today. It was just that gorgeous outside.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I just survived a professional ‘development’ day where the most useful thing I learned was that the ladies in that particular cafeteria don’t know the difference between a vegan and a velociraptor if one bit them on the leg.

This was their version of a vegan lunch…

If we were having coffee I’d share these jokes to make you smile.

If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee we’d be at a new coffee shop. I’ve just discovered it. It opened up near my Day Job Place (of all places) and it’s delightful. Part coffee-house, part restaurant, it’s cozy, classy and full of daylight. It had free Wi-Fi and plenty of sitting space, so the only remaining question was the quality of its coffee.

I ordered one and got the picture to the left…and it tastes even better than it looks. Absolutely delicious. Yum!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that this week has been a whirl of madness. Coming back to work was exciting, terrifying, insanely busy and fulfilling all at once. I have a job that causes a rainbow of emotions in me. I’ve been doing it for a while but it still manages to both surprise and challenge me.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that the weather has been causing me no end of worries. These incredible storms are terrifying. I wonder if this is the result of humankind’s lack of environmental responsibility and care.  I hope this doesn’t mean even worse storms for the upcoming generations. I worry for the poor victims of Harvey and Irma. I hope people (and pets) have made it to shelter.

If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that this week has been my last week off before returning to work and I’m not sure I’m ready to head back. My Day Job is working with the public and though it’s both challenging and rewarding, I’m sort of scared to head back. The introvert in me is hiding in her shell.

In other news, Ocean, our furry girl akita, has decided that her diet of kibble and treats we give her is not up to her Royal Fluffiness standards and has started to eat things outside in the yard. The yard being mostly made of grass and dirt, she’s eating said grass, some crab apples she finds and, most disturbingly, wild mice that she somehow catches. It’s this last part that worries me the most because wild mice aren’t exactly disease free. Also, she swallows the things and then has to puke them back up because her system can’t handle them whole. The entire thing is both incredibly disgusting and disturbing. How she likes to eat that when we give her healthy kibble, fruits, tuna and clean water is a mystery.

Finally, this week my hubby has been furnishing his new office which means I’ve been drafted into helping him. Me, being incredibly strong and muscular (ahem!) I basically huff and puff and try to lift one end of the furniture while my husband curses in British and wonders why he didn’t invite his buddies to help out. I concur.

How about you? How was your week?

If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that, after talking to a friend, I decided to leave my plant-based diet a few weeks ago. I dropped it like a hot potato thinking I’d be able to switch without an issue. As it turns out, switching diets can have an impact on your digestive system. Mine threw a tantrum worthy of a two-year old and I literally ran back to my vegetables, fruits and legumes.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that my week off from work is done and I’m heading back tomorrow. I’ve tried to explain this to my furry babies but I’m worried they have not understood and will be really upset tomorrow. We’ve been doing long walks and having snuggling sessions on a daily basis and they’re definitely going to miss that.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m worried about Texas and how everyone will endure Hurricane Harvey. I keep watching the news for updates and hoping things will work out somehow.

Finally, I’d tell you that I’ve been snooping around other blogs and really enjoying reading what other people are up to on their weekend. Weekend Coffee Share is such a great idea. A huge thanks to Part Time Monster for running it!
