#1000Speak for Compassion.

When I heard about this project, I wanted to be in it. Compassion is a powerful, powerful thing and so beautiful it almost always brings me to tears.

Then I thought, what on earth am I going to write about? And, just like that. I knew.

I think I love seeing compassion because it’s in all of us. It has no race, no religion, only kindness and understanding.

I remember being taught as a child that animals have no compassion. I forget who said it but today, I know that person had no idea. Animals are incredibly compassionate.

Check out this cow. She’s in her glory. I actually think she’s smiling. Who knew cows liked hugs?

Monkeys like them too.

So do humans…

I saw a show on TV the other day about animals who adopted other baby animals. Turns out, this happens in nature more often than I thought.

That’s a baby owl. Not a puppy.

This one adopted ducklings.

This one is a pigeon and a baby squirrel.

The examples go on and on.

All of them are animals being compassionate.

Humans can do it too.

And when we do, it’s a beautiful thing.

Posts I loved this week

So, every week I go hunting for good posts…and this week, they seemed to come out of the woodwork. They were everywhere! Bloggers are working their tails off to keep their posts fresh, relevant and interesting. Check out these post. They’re absolutely incredible.

A great blog I just discovered, Zenhabits.net had this older post but it’s so good, I cheated and added it to this week. It’s on finding focus for writing. Awesome.

I really liked this post from Outmanned because I too have tried putting mayo in my hair…and, be warned, it doesn’t work. Like she says: no condiments in my hair! Then stick around and read this beautifully written piece on what we pass down through the generations. Talk about a gifted writer.

Of course, Infinitefreetime did it again and created some great posts this week. This one and this one. Do not miss them. Really. So funny.

This one is also funny. From Bill Ferris, a post on how to get over rejections that made me laugh out loud. And the reasons just kept getting funnier.

A big thank you to The Writing Catalog for this post. It’s a great editorial about writers, it has great insight into the world of writing. It comes from the blog Therefore I Geek. Check it out to see where you fall.

If you’re looking to be inspired, check out this post by Jeff Moore on the Everyday Power Blog. It has 28 amazing quotes by Rumi. Moving, inspirational and eye-opening, they made my day. Or this great motivational post by Jen Owenby. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you Jen!

On plot development, I read this awesome post by Emily Wenstrom. I loved the idea of a 3-D conflict and, when I applied it to a scene in my novel, it really enriched it. I’m going to try and use that in my plot development.

And on editing, don’t rush out your work! Edit and re-edit until that manuscript shines like a diamond–or possibly more. D. Emery Bunn has a much more eloquent way of saying it it in this post.

This one is a great heads up for all who blog or write. Live to write – Write to live‘s Wendy E. N. Thomas wrote this post on ‘Nothing gets deleted on the internet – know this‘. It really hit home because I blog and I need to remember that what I post is both public and permanent. Have you heard about the controversy surrounding Lynn Shepard’s post? Enough said.

I worry and, when I do, my writing freezes and comes to a stop. This week, Mishka Jenkins had this amazing post on worrying while writing. Even better, she has these amazing resources to find inspiration. Check it out here.

I also really enjoyed this post by Kristen Lamb on the difference between Introverts and Extroverts. I used to think an extrovert was someone who spoke a lot and an introvert was someone who was quiet. Okay. I had no idea. If you don’t know where you fall, check out the post.

I’ve always heard, in writing, less is more. But I write novels not novellas and they have to be a certain length. Here’s  an amazing post about how to ensure that novel has that length. A big thank you to Kris Bock for the amazing resources and great post!

If those run-on sentences are giving you grief, Shanan had this great post on her site The Procrastiwriter with grammar links. It’s an excellent one to keep on tab for those sticky semi-colons too!

And finally, one cutie of a post by Winter Bayne. Loved this post, especially the bit about seizures.
