What on earth?…

So, we’re doing some renos and saw this…

Why is that speaker built into the inside of our house? What is it doing there? Why would anyone put a speaker into the guts of a house?

The questions abound.

Things that made me smile today

Our new house still feels…a little strange. We’re making it ours, a little bit at a time but there are parts that are still alien and don’t feel quite like home. This is why finding things that I love and make me smile was key today. Here are some of my favourites.

The first one is a tiny bud from a fern. Isn’t it adorable?

The second one is the tiny baby of an ivy. Super cute! Then, of course, there is this majestic, awesome tree in our front yard that defies description. It’s simply incredible.

And finally, our poor delivery guy who tried to get up our insanely steep driveway and failed.

Poor, poor delivery guy. Should I admit that I laughed and laughed as the van slid down the driveway over and over?

A new house

Our new house has tons of poky corners.

It has odd new windows and a gas fireplace.

This house is definitely a ‘she’. She’s got personality galore and she’s pretty in the way only female energy can be. We’ve cleaned most of her by now, so we’re starting to get to know her.

She’s still mostly a mystery. There are still light switches whose role is a puzzle, locks that defiantly remain open and sounds that make us wonder what she’s trying to tell us. But we’re getting to know each other.

Soon, she’ll be home.

It’s a disaster in here

We’ve moved. We have all our things stuffed into the new house and we have survived the first night. The dogs went nuts in the new place, the movers forgot to read the labels on the boxes and dumped them everywhere and the tech guy could only find one phone jack.

This is definitely a two-cup-of-coffee day.

In the interim, check out this amazing dog blog and these hilarious memes that I stole from there. Aren’t they great?

New house, new scenes

I’m so resistant to change. I really don’t like it. It takes me forever to accept it and even longer to recognize it’s a good thing. We’ve been in our new house for just about 2 months now and I still resist calling it home.

To help move things along in my obstinate mind, I thought I’d share some of the sights we enjoy.

These are the rocks in our yard. When we first moved in, they were half-burried in a corner of the yard, all on top of each other. Since they weigh more than a small car, we had to get a huge machine to move them and, in a spurt of originality, we arranged them in a sort of circle. We now call it the Mini-Stonehenge.

For some reason our grass has turned white. You might not be able to really tell in this picture but trust me…it’s white. Bizarre but there you have it.

We also have these happy little mushrooms in our yard and a not-so-happy nest of wasps that I hope our doggies stay away from. My husband ‘discovered’ it by accident while mowing the lawn and was bitten 8 times before he could make it into the house. Eight times. I’m thinking guard dogs are overrated. The thing would be to have guard-wasps. Now there’s a deterrent to unwanted visitors!

So, what do you think? Exciting new digs?

Exciting and terrifying

It finally happened. We sold our house.

We’ve been trying to sell since last June. It’s been so long that we had passed the superstitious stage and gone right into despair. When the offer came in, I didn’t actually believe it. I thought we’d die here.

There is one problem though. Our buyers didn’t just want the house, they wanted it pronto. The closing date is May 15. As in three weeks.

In less than 24 hours we went from joy to total panic. Where were we going to live? How does one find a house to move into in less than 21 days?

But do not worry, gentle reader, we did find a house. As luck would have it, the place was empty and worked with our insane schedule. It needs grass, a fence and a few other things before we move in but it’s surrounded by trees and is next to a lake, so we’re delighted.

Now, instead of worrying about selling our house, we can move on to worrying about selling extra things, packing and changing everything from one address to another.

All in less than three weeks.
