Posts I loved this week

From photography to D Day, this week has it all! I loved the varied selection of amazing posts!

If you like photography, you might want to check out this post by Hansstellingsma. There are some truly beautiful shots.

I love the blog theme: “If we were having coffee…”. It’s written in such a way that it’s whimsical and yet so inclusive. It feels like the middle of a good book, when I know the characters and I’m comfortable in the story. A few of my favourite blogs follow it. I thought I’d share them here. Here’s one by Part Time Monster and another by The Writing Catalog.

A excellent post for those interested in Twitter, Sourcerer explains just what Follow Fridays are and how to do them. With lists to look for and clear steps this is a great help for anyone looking to increase followers.

I loved this post by Winter Bayne because, for me, the story starts with the characters. I have a list (not unlike hers) that I must answer about the hero and heroine before I go anywhere near a plot. A great tip for other writers, thanks for the great post, Winter!

A big congrats to Amos M. Carpenter for getting published! Check the post and the book here.

On June 6, 1944, D Day started in Normandy and everything changed. This one is a breathtakingly beautiful and thoughtful post on the anniversary of D Day by Chris Musgrave. A big thank you for that inspirational post.

A great one to make you smile, this post is on famous rejections! Yeap, those big, famous authors whose names are now commonplace, suffered rejections! Check out what they were told of their masterpieces! A big thank you to Inky Tavern for the great post!

A book list for summer reading! I was delighted with this post because it had books! To read! With covers and everything! Absolutely awesome! I can’t say thank you enough to  for the post.

A rant by Alianne Donnelly that’s so well written, I wanted to cheer. As a romance reader and writer, I can so sympathize. Thank you so much for sharing such an honest post!

Finally, I am such a sucker for great quotes and these are awesome. From world leaders, 10 quotes to inspire you. A big thank you to Jeff Moore for this great assortment!

The Benevolence Archives, Vol 1‘ came out this week in amazon. A big congrats to Infinitefreetime!

This post is the must-read follow up for Twitter by Sourcerer. Sourcerer breaks down the process of getting followers into clear, easy to understand steps. He warns and explains the pitfalls so even I understood them and promises more to come! A big, big thank you for sharing those proven steps, Gene’O!

A great way to turn leisure activities into writing inspiration. I loved this post by Karen O’Connor in Live Write Thrive because it not only gave me tips, it also encouraged me to self-care!

Want more inspiration? Check out this great post by Lisa L. Jackson on how to kick-start your writing.

Want more still? All right. One more on how to start writing when you can’t. Here’s a great post by Marianne Richmond with four great tips on how to make that muse inspire you on The Write Practice.

This post on Writer Unboxed was awesome. One, not only is  a good writer, he’s funny–this post practically read itself. And two, I’ve had the issue he talks about. I’d like to have a heroine that is a pharmacist…except I know nothing about it. I dread having to do that research. Keith comes up with great ideas that he shares with you and I. A big thank you to him for those tips.

A how-to for choosing a WordPress theme and customizing it,  does a great job of explaining not only how to pick a theme but how to customize it. I’m always looking for new ways to freshen up my blog, what a great post at Romance University!

It’s a list and a countdown, so I loved it. The top seven qualities all writers have by Victoria Grefer.

This post contains a little sample from Phoenix. I love samples and this one rocks. A big thanks to Winterbayne!

This post on Part Time Monster is another countdown. I loved it. Cute, humorous and plain fun, it kept making me smile.

I loved, loved these quotes by Oprah. They’re just something else. A big thank you to Jeff Moore for them!

Posts I loved this week

So, every week I go hunting for good posts…and this week, they seemed to come out of the woodwork. They were everywhere! Bloggers are working their tails off to keep their posts fresh, relevant and interesting. Check out these post. They’re absolutely incredible.

A great blog I just discovered, Zenhabits.net had this older post but it’s so good, I cheated and added it to this week. It’s on finding focus for writing. Awesome.

I really liked this post from Outmanned because I too have tried putting mayo in my hair…and, be warned, it doesn’t work. Like she says: no condiments in my hair! Then stick around and read this beautifully written piece on what we pass down through the generations. Talk about a gifted writer.

Of course, Infinitefreetime did it again and created some great posts this week. This one and this one. Do not miss them. Really. So funny.

This one is also funny. From Bill Ferris, a post on how to get over rejections that made me laugh out loud. And the reasons just kept getting funnier.

A big thank you to The Writing Catalog for this post. It’s a great editorial about writers, it has great insight into the world of writing. It comes from the blog Therefore I Geek. Check it out to see where you fall.

If you’re looking to be inspired, check out this post by Jeff Moore on the Everyday Power Blog. It has 28 amazing quotes by Rumi. Moving, inspirational and eye-opening, they made my day. Or this great motivational post by Jen Owenby. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you Jen!

On plot development, I read this awesome post by Emily Wenstrom. I loved the idea of a 3-D conflict and, when I applied it to a scene in my novel, it really enriched it. I’m going to try and use that in my plot development.

And on editing, don’t rush out your work! Edit and re-edit until that manuscript shines like a diamond–or possibly more. D. Emery Bunn has a much more eloquent way of saying it it in this post.

This one is a great heads up for all who blog or write. Live to write – Write to live‘s Wendy E. N. Thomas wrote this post on ‘Nothing gets deleted on the internet – know this‘. It really hit home because I blog and I need to remember that what I post is both public and permanent. Have you heard about the controversy surrounding Lynn Shepard’s post? Enough said.

I worry and, when I do, my writing freezes and comes to a stop. This week, Mishka Jenkins had this amazing post on worrying while writing. Even better, she has these amazing resources to find inspiration. Check it out here.

I also really enjoyed this post by Kristen Lamb on the difference between Introverts and Extroverts. I used to think an extrovert was someone who spoke a lot and an introvert was someone who was quiet. Okay. I had no idea. If you don’t know where you fall, check out the post.

I’ve always heard, in writing, less is more. But I write novels not novellas and they have to be a certain length. Here’s  an amazing post about how to ensure that novel has that length. A big thank you to Kris Bock for the amazing resources and great post!

If those run-on sentences are giving you grief, Shanan had this great post on her site The Procrastiwriter with grammar links. It’s an excellent one to keep on tab for those sticky semi-colons too!

And finally, one cutie of a post by Winter Bayne. Loved this post, especially the bit about seizures.

33 inspirational quotes on love, purpose and peace by the amazing Gandhi–by Jeff Moore

A big, big thank you to Jeff Moore for this amazing post. I woke, read it and it cheered me up much more than my trusty cup of coffee. Now, that’s a good post!

I loved, loved so many of these quotes. Loved them.

Here are some of my favourites:

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.

“First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.

“My imperfections and failures are as much a blessing from God as my successes and my talents and I lay them both at his feet.

“Poverty is the worst form of violence.”

“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”

“There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.”

Aren’t they incredible? But, don’t take my word for it, find your own! There are some truly amazing quotes from a truly amazing man.

Posts I loved this week

Early March and there are a lot of talented writers writing their way through this relentless winter. I loved this week’s selection of posts!

Outmanned wrote a post that terrified me. I just kept wondering how she does it. How does she do it? I would have been crying on the floor. My hat goes off to her! And a big congrats on her award!

Another big congrats to Scott Bury, fellow Canadian and very talented author who’s book, “One shade of red” is out. Check it out in David C. Cassidy’s blog. David C. Cassidy is another very talented Canadian author who also does some amazing photography, book covers and featured Scott in his blog. Way to go guys!

I tend to love countdowns in just about anything but this one is particularly awesome. Jeff Moore‘s Top 10 Most Popular Posts. Check them out.

Live to write – Write to live just blows my mind. Week after week, they consistently come up with amazing posts. Not only are they well written, they’re full of great information that just hits the spot. This week Lisa J. Jackson wrote a particularly awesome post with great ideas! A big thank you for that great post. Then Jamie Lee Wallace wrote this great post about being creative (with help from John Cleese!). So positive and instructional! Awesome!

Finding balance is always a struggle for me. Kristen Lamb is definitely a go-getter and she has a great post on balance. I found this one thanks to Winter Bayne, another awesome writer and definitely another go-getter (check out her to-do lists!). Big thank you for the suggestion!

Here’s yet another example of why I love Infinitefreetime. Just check out this post. Hilarious! It’s tiny and yet soooo funny. I have no idea how he does it but I suspect genius has something to do with it.

K.M. Weiland wrote a delicious post titled: The lie your character believes. Ohhh. Just that title had me going. I thought: how absolutely amazing to create a lie, a piece of denial for a character. I loved it. I was thinking of my character, Amy. She believes she can’t handle her fear. The plot in the book, makes her face that fear. This great post is part of a great series on Character Arcs. Check it out here.

I’ve mentioned Sourcerer before and Gene’O because I believe he’s incredibly talented and that blog is amazing, but I’d like to mention his personal blog this week, The Writing Catalog. Gene’O wrote a powerful and gripping post this week. It really hit me because it was so honest and emotionally raw. I find honesty online is both rare and incredibly refreshing.

Speaking of honesty, check out Jodie Llewellyn’s very honest post on fear. I started reading and couldn’t stop. Her fears were exactly my own! I loved that post.
