If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that River, my faithful doggie, has started showing some initiative. At night, when he’s had enough of staying up, he comes to my side, sighs loudly and stares at me until I get up and go to bed. Apparently, it’s not okay for him to go to bed on his own, he has to have me with him. Following his lead, I ushered my hubby to bed early the other day. Hubby thought the entire thing was too funny for words.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that we’ve been having a cold spell that was too brutal for words. When the temperature reached -26 C without the wind, being outside was out of the question and I’ve been keeping a close eye on my puppies. When they’re outside, they seem to forget the temperature and play on the snow with delight. Winter-dogs or not, I’m not comfortable leaving them out there for longer than 15 minutes or so. I worry about their little ears and wet noses. So I call them in and they do come…reluctantly and giving me sad looks of regret.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you just how cold it was where you live. It seems this freezing spell has hit most of North America and there isn’t a spot that wasn’t under some sort of weather warning.

Definitely time for another cup of beautiful coffee. And a huge thanks to Eclectic Alli for hosting our Coffee Share.

If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m thrilled that I survived Christmas. It’s a holiday that stresses me out and I’m super glad that I survived it this year. Family has been taken care of, loved and connected to and things are now on their way back to normalcy.

If we were having coffee I’d share that my doggies have no such concerns. Their immediate worry is lunch, quickly followed by what’s for supper. Since it’s Christmas, the answer is their kibble, with some treats such as gravy or broth or bits of turkey. They’re also rather fond of snow and I’m still trying to get over seeing them laying comfortably in the stuff in the middle of our yard.

Finally, if we were having coffee, I’d tell you that hubby shared with me that he’d like to have a third dog. This development might not shock you, gentle reader, but I immediately envisioned a dog-infested house…of course, then I thought of puppies and the infestation immediately disappeared.

If you’re rolling your eyes at this point, I don’t blame you. But…pupppieeeesss!!!

Okay, that’s enough of that. How are your holidays going?

If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that this week we’ve been having ideas. Mine was to create a better cushion for our doggies in their beds. They have those usual doggie beds you get in the stores but the stuffing bunches up and they end up with parts that have nothing and parts that are all lumpy. So…I searched and looked and looked and finally found some memory foam meant for human beds. I bought some, cut it to fit and stuffed it inside.

This one shows the memory foam inside. Keep in mind, I doubled it because…well, I’m nuts.

This is the final product…so comfy!

And yes, our two doggies rested their fluffy tails on these cushions and loved them.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that my hubby also had an idea. His came from a friend who told him that the thing to do nowadays was to have a back up wallet. As in, a fake wallet for when someone tries to steal your wallet, you can just give them the fake one.

Demonstrating his cunning intellect, my hubby thought this was a great idea. Never mind that he has never had someone try to steal his wallet. This was an emergency and needed to be done ASAP and he now is the proud owner of two wallets.

If we were having coffee, I’d warn you not to look at this unless you are ready; the video broke my heart.

I’ll be honest and admit I cried, that it kept me up at night and that, even now, makes me worry about those beautiful animals, literally starving to death.

I know there’s little one person can do and my little contribution won’t do too much, but I found this grassroots habitat dedicated solely to Polar Bears; the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat and I had to give them some money.

Aren’t they simply gorgeous?

If we were having coffee, I’d ask for a second. My head feels like a beehive and I can’t seem to focus. I think I might be sick…so it’s a good thing you’re on the other side of a computer screen. I don’t want you to catch it.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that this week has been exhausting. It felt like a month-long instead of 5 days and the fact that my hubby was away for the weekend didn’t help my mood at all.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I had the most bizarre experience yesterday. I was home, feeling sick with my two fur-balls (aka dogs) and I started to watch football.

I can blame my illness on the fact that I suddenly wanted to watch the sport, I certainly haven’t ever watched it before when I was healthy, but the fact of the matter is that I watched the entire game…all two hours of it. Two. Hours.

Obviously, I have some sort of mental disease.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask for a second one. This week has been crazy. It seems I’m not the only one who’s had a nutty week, Luther M. Siler’s sounds absolutely bonkers.

If you asked what was nuts at my job, I’d tell you, without giving away too many details, that I’ve seen co-workers crying this week, that my job used to include doing Thing-A and has suddenly changed to Thing-B and that there were some late, late hours at work this week. This weekend was a desperately needed necessity.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m looking forward to spending tomorrow with my puppies and taking them on a long walk. Today has been all about cleaning up the house (it was a disaster), getting groceries (we had nothing but baking soda and water in the fridge) and recuperating from the week.

Finally, I’d share with you that my lovely hubby has been trying to ‘cure’ my fear of spiders by showing me horrific pictures of said animals.

That’s right ladies, he’s all mine.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you what you were doing for Thanksgiving. We’re celebrating with a massive meal that’s guaranteed to make us all sick and grateful we are alive.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you Ocean is mostly back to her normal self. She’s still a little subdued but she’s eating and her stomach doesn’t sound like a orchestra warming up any longer. I am so grateful for Trent for his tip, I can’t even begin to tell you.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that we already had family over yesterday and we played Euchre. My lovely hubby being the serious card player that he is, he called it on a 9 and promptly lost the entire game to the horror of his partner and our laughter.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that it’s dreary and wet and gross around here but I’m so grateful I haven’t heard anything in the news about Trump and North Korea that it doesn’t bother me at all.

Finally I’d ask you how your coffee was. I had the world’s most bitter brew yesterday. It was so nasty even adding tons of milk couldn’t dilute the acid taste.

How about you? How was your week?

If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that it’s finally fall here. Fall in Canada has a crispy, cool feel to the air that’s unique to this time of year. It’s cold but it doesn’t have the harsh bite of winter’s winds so it’s lovely. The leaves are beautiful too. They explode into a million shades of yellow, gold and bold reds that makes walking a spiritual experience.

So, to the delight of my two fluff-balls of dogs, we had two walks today. It was just that gorgeous outside.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I just survived a professional ‘development’ day where the most useful thing I learned was that the ladies in that particular cafeteria don’t know the difference between a vegan and a velociraptor if one bit them on the leg.

This was their version of a vegan lunch…

If we were having coffee I’d share these jokes to make you smile.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I can already see the first signs of Fall in the trees. Some of the leaves are changing and they’re getting to that beautiful reddish hue that only maples have. I love fall, but I miss the extra hours of daylight that summer provides.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I’ve been watching a British show (we only get UK channels with our new system) called: Paul O’Grady for the love of dogs.

Not only do they rescue, help and find new homes for the dogs, Paul is hilarious and makes me laugh with every episode. He chats with the dogs and asks them questions and he’s just so funny. It’s hard to stop watching and yesterday, I watched an entire season in one go.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that River has been itching like crazy lately. I think he might be allergic to something, so we’ve started giving him allergy medication…but, just in case, we’re also going to give him a bath. Since River hates baths, giving him one is akin to trying to wash one of the dragons from Game of Thrones, a herculean and massive task to be avoided at all costs.

Finally, I’d ask you how your week was going, how things are on your end and what news you have to share.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that our garage is almost finished and I have the pictures to prove it.

Stairs to get into our home

A hinge I thought was inspirational

The corner of a window…don’t I take incredible pictures?

Okay, he might look tiny in the picture but this spider was actually massive. As in dinaussor-sized massive!

My lovely Jeep, safe and sound in his new home…and yes, I parked too close to the door. Oops.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that my lovely hubby just had a fit over the dogs. He was tip toeing his way around a sleeping River when the dog decided to move…and, trying to avoid stepping on him, the man went flying into a pirouette. It was an incredibly graceful move for a man that is not on the small side. However, River didn’t find it that impressive, and he didn’t think the decidedly British curses that followed were inspiring either.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that just this weekend was the first time when I couldn’t finish a book I had started. It was an odd experience that left me pretty stunned.

If we were having coffee…

If we were having coffee, I’d share that I have some time off work coming up soon and I’m over the moon about it. Me, being me, I’ve also managed to have some work to take home with me during that break but I think that there will be plenty of time to do both, work and relax.

If we were having coffee, I’d share with you that yesterday was Canada’s 150th Birthday and we went out to celebrate among the many other Canadians. It was hot, sticky and humid…not to mention the crowds. When we finally got an ice-cream and headed back home, I breathed a sigh of relief. I don’t like crowds.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that this is my favourite time of day. It’s early morning, it’s super quiet and nothing is moving in the house except my fingers on the keyboard. Soooo peaceful.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I’m on the hunt for another book to read. Have you read anything you’d recommend?

What do you think? Is it time for another cup of coffee?
