If we were having coffee

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that our house is finally getting a make over. The crack in the ceiling that has been there for months and months, is finally getting fixed.

This is what it looks like now.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that, inspired by a show on TV about working dogs, I tried to ‘train’ mine by using treats and hiding them in our basement. To say it was an absolute disaster is to minimize the mess that ensued. Both dogs found the same treat, there was a dog fight, treats left in places forgotten and a very exhausted owner by the end of it.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that hubby has his friend Shane over and nothing is safe in the house. The TV, the dehumidifier and the ceiling crack are only some of the things they have put their little paws on. As a result, the TV now faces a completely different direction, there is a broken dehumidifier in our garage and the ceiling crack is newly painted. When those two get together, nothing works the way it’s supposed to.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you how your week went. How are things on your end? How is work? Are you having a good weekend?

Thanks so much for reading, lovely reader! Here’s hoping that you had a wonderful week. And a huge thanks to Eclectic Alli for hosting our coffee share.

Where our ceiling crack mystery is finally resolved

We found a crack on our ceiling. It was a scary thing, seeing this dark, ominous line weave its way across our ceiling–especially because it kept growing and it showed up with a buddy that lived on the opposing wall.

Well, that was back in August when snow was a dim memory and we had sunlight for hours and hours each day. Now, it’s December. We’ve had two structural engineers come by, a gaggle of construction workers and two sets of supervisors. They all managed to fit through the trap door into our attic and, after much sweating and discussion, they have come up with the reason for the crack.

Ready?

The wind. Yeap. It wasn’t a structural issue, or moisture, or the house settling, or the gods having fun. After many consultations, head scratching and frowns, two sets of structural engineers and their assorted buddies concluded that it was the wind.

The. Wind.

When they told me, I really wanted to scream. These people don’t come over for free. We’ve spent a bit of money to try and fix what we thought was a serious issue. Only to find out it was the wind.

Even now, I still want to do this:

But my computer is brand new. So I better just share the story with you. And add a picture of something to make you smile.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that it’s finally turning colder. It’s been so hot that it was hard to see the leaves changing colours while we were in shorts and t-shirts. It just didn’t vibe.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that our house is slowly coming back together. A while ago, we found a crack in our ceiling and one to match on our wall. Just around that time, we also found dreaded moisture in our basement and tons of mold on things to go along with it. This weekend, we’ve been purging, washing and throwing things out until there isn’t one surface that hasn’t been covered with vinegar or washed or tossed.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that work has been nuts but, after many years at my job, I’m a very capable squirrel.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you how things are with you? And how is Fall treating you?
